The School

The Vanessa Golborn School of Dance runs classes in classical ballet (RAD syllabus) and Modern , Tap and Jazz (ISTD Syllabus). Classes are held all day Saturday, and Monday to Friday after school hours. Some adult classes also run during the day . The school timetable is closely aligned with the local school terms. All classes run at Alton Sports Centre, Alton, Hampshire.

Classes

Ballet Classes(RAD Syllabus) - The school caters for pre-school children from the age of approx 3yrs. These classes are dedicated to creating fun classes where the ‘work’ is hidden within the enjoyment. Ballet classes continue throughout all the age groups up to and including senior ballet classes for teenagers / young adults wishing to continue to work for vocational exams (previously known as Majors) or as a way of keeping fit in an artistic environment.

Modern and Tap(ISTD Syllabus) - Classes begin with children from approx 5yrs working through the Imperial Society exams from primary to grade 6 and into the vocational exams for teenagers. (previously known as Majors.)

Jazz classes - Jazz syllabus classes are available for students from secondary school age and are suitable for students with no previous dance experience.

Events

Every two years we produce a school show held at a professional theatre incorporating over 200 dancers from the school. The next show will be 'Sounds of the Small Screen' in July 2009 at the Anvil Theatre in Basingstoke.  In 2005 the show ‘Dance in time’ was performed and in 2007 we performed 'Hits from the flicks' at the same venue. Each autumn term we also run a choreographic competition in Alton.
